Bathroom Remodel: Day 9

I finally got the shower walls tiled and the vanity in place today. I think it turned out very nice. Check out the pictures. Next step: Grout and seal tile.


Apparently wet saws are not meant for use in sub-freezing temperatures. Who knew?? It got the job done anyway.

Bathroom Remodel: Day 7

So far progress is going well. The floor tile is down, and all the backer board is installed in the shower. I did, however, run into a small problem with the backer board. The 1/2 inch backerboard was not quite as thick as the existing sheetrock because the sheetrock was glued to the studs and the glue added as much as 1/4 inch in places. To fix this problem, I added a layer of 1/4 inch backerboard on top of the 1/2 inch backerboard.

Bathroom Remodel: Day 4

So far, so good. The bathtub and vanity are removed, the new shower pan is is in place, and the shower seat is framed in. I was also able to get some of the backer board installed on the floor. Next step will be to install the plumbing, backer board around shower, and prepare for tile.

Bathroom Remodel: Day 1

I started a new bathroom remodel this week. This remodeling project definitely presents some unique challenges. The main objective is to remove the existing fiberglass bathtub and replace it with a 42 inch shower pan. In the remaining 18 inches I will be building a tile shower seat. The seat itself will be a solid peice of corian, and the shower walls will be tiled with white 3x6 inch subway tile. The shower faucet will also be very unique. Besides the main shower head, it has a hand-held shower unit that will be installed next to the tile seat. There will be a chrome "L" shaped grab bar that the hand-held shower will mount on. The floor will also be tiled with 18 inch porcelain tiles with a marble look. And last, but not least, I will be installing a new vanity and matching storage cabinet.
